The Lincoln Journal-Star gives us another poll, this one from KMTV and a local research group. In it, Osborne holds a 44-41 lead over Dave Heineman. It's consistent with the other two polls, both of which had Osborne in the 43-44 point range. I don't think there's much you can draw from this poll because of that. Osborne hasn't made any gains, and Heineman's losses are so small that it's likely just the margin of error. In other words, this poll really just confirms that it's still anyone's race. I'm glad to see regular polling on the most hotly-contested primary in the country, but there's not much new information here.
I did finally turn in my early voting ballot yesterday. No, I did not switch parties - I don't ever want to be responsible for putting either Dave Heineman or Tom Osborne in the governor's seat. I'm disappointed in the lack of competitive races on our primary ballot. We don't have any candidates for Attorney General, State Auditor, or State Treasurer. Not even a write-in candidate, yet. The state party has made tremendous strides in the past couple of years - 2004 was a disaster. But there is still a long way to go. If there is a real 93-county strategy, I hope the party implements it. Because things need to improve a lot before we're a competitive force in this state again.

I've been reading your Kos comments and had to remark: You have the power!
If the state party aparatus isn't leading the way (honestly, are any of them?), it's up to you. Getting out there working for a candidate as you're doing is great, but look around for what else you can do. Does your precinct have Democratic committeepeople in place and working? An awful lot of precincts across the country don't, blue and red alike. If not, become a committeeperson. Carry voter registration and absentee ballot application forms with you, and ask people if they are registered. Ask people you contact to volunteer. Wear a button so people in the grocery store or theater lobby ask you questions.
At any rate, don't wait for the people at the top to do something because they may never move forward.
Thank you. At the smallest grassroots level, we've been working for change from the bottom up. My criticizing the party in any way probably isn't the best career move for me. And I'm not going to be that person, either. I know the people in the party are trying to make things work. I just strongly disagree with their methods.
There are absolutely times when change seems hopeless, especially here. I don't ever plan on moving from here again - that's not to say it won't happen - but I want to be here when the change comes. I want to be a part of it.
Dave - Maybe you should run for office. I've been reading your comments on this blog and on the DU and you seem pretty articulate. I'd vote for you.
Thanks, but that's a long ways off for me. Need to finish school and actually have some money in my pockets first. For now, I'm content to help others run.
He's not ahead anymore---any legit poll has Heineman up between 3 to 5 points.
